The Pretty Team loves college football (and football fashion), but we’re not above watching those first few games from the comfort of our air-conditioned living rooms. Call us fair-weather fans if you must—but figuring out what to wear in triple-digit temps with full-on humidity? That’s a challenge we’d rather sideline.
We know we’re not alone, which is why we turned to Amy Huckaby, owner of The Chifforobe, for some football fashion wisdom. As an Ole Miss grad, Amy gets it—she feels our pain but also understands the power of the fan experience. After all, the players need us in the stands… and someone has to help the refs see straight.
Here are a few outfit ideas to help you kick off the season in style—without melting in the process.
Look One: Ruffles, Rompers, & Ready for the Fifth Quarter
To the untrained eye, it looks like a dress and heels. But you know better—it’s actually an ivory romper with breezy open underarms cleverly hidden beneath a ruffle. “The ruffle adds a hint of sophistication,” says Amy, “making it perfect for the fifth quarter party after the game.”
And the color? Because it’s ivory—not stark white—you can keep wearing it long past Labor Day (if you’re still playing by those old-school rules).
As for the shoes: these super-cute block heels are comfy enough for the walk from the parking lot to the stadium—and all 90,000 stairs to your seat. Bonus? They’re just $45. Add to cart immediately.
Look Two: Game Day Cotton, From Tailgate to Church
This breathable cotton skort (also available in plus sizes) pairs perfectly with a buttery-soft tee for an effortless game-day look. “Both pieces are lightweight and so soft,” Amy says, “you’ll want to live in them.”
Add a pair of flat sandals to complete the outfit—and these aren’t just any sandals. Amy swears by this pair: “They’re versatile enough to wear to a Saturday ballgame and then again Sunday morning for church.”
(PSA: We couldn’t find them anywhere else online, so we’re assuming they’ve sold out in most places. If your size is still in stock, grab them before they’re gone!)
Look Three: Sparkle in the Stands
This sequined helmet tee paired with white pants (choose denim, as shown, or breezy linen from the inset) lets you cheer on your team while still serving sophisticated style in the stands. “You can root for your favorite player and sparkle while doing it,” Amy says. The cotton top is generously cut with extra breathing room under the arms, so there’s no fear in throwing your hands up for the “It’s good!” after a field goal or extra point.
Finish the look with accessories of your choice—Amy’s styling suggestions are in the photo above for a little extra flair.
Bonus: The Chambray Dress That Always Wins
And finally: when in doubt, go with a soft, short-sleeved chambray shirtdress.* Yes, you’ll still sweat. But you’ll look very good doing it.
