When your skin is prone to eczema or irritation, trying a new skincare product can feel like a gamble. You’re not looking for the latest trend or miracle ingredient—you just want something that won’t make your skin angrier than it already is.
While we were working on our feature about hypochlorous acid for the Summer 2026 issue of Pretty, Mario Badescu reached out and offered to send a few of their skin-calming favorites for us to try. I was happy to accept because I was already using—and loving—their Repairing Facial Spray with Hypochlorous Acid, which we recommended in that article. My esthetician had originally suggested it during one of my seasonal eczema flare-ups, and it noticeably reduced the redness and irritation.

I also shared a few of the products with my daughter, who deals with severe eczema year-round. Between the two of us, we were able to get a good sense of how these products performed on skin that’s easily irritated.
Here’s what we thought.
Aloe Moisturizer SPF 15

I ended up using this as my everyday daytime moisturizer. Although the SPF 15 is lower than what I typically reach for, I never experienced any sunburn—even during the sweltering Alabama summer.
Despite being oil-free, it feels surprisingly rich thanks to aloe and glycerin. It absorbs quickly without feeling greasy and leaves skin comfortably hydrated throughout the day.
Aloe has well-known soothing, anti-inflammatory properties that can be helpful during eczema flare-ups. Under normal circumstances, this moisturizer doesn’t sting at all. But when my eczema is already flared, almost anything I apply causes a few seconds of stinging before settling down, and this product behaved the same way. The sensation passed quickly, and once it did, my skin felt soothed and comfortably hydrated.
This has quietly become one of my daily staples.
Kera Moisturizer

Although Mario Badescu doesn’t specifically market this as a night cream, that’s exactly how I began using it.
It’s rich without being heavy and leaves skin feeling incredibly soft. One ingredient that caught my attention was Isodecyl Salicylate, which acts as an emollient by helping fill tiny gaps between skin cells with lipids to lock in moisture.
I’ve especially enjoyed pairing it with my retinol products since those can leave my skin feeling dry and irritated. Using this afterward helped offset much of that dryness without causing any breakouts or sensitivity.
If your skin tends to feel dry or irritated after using products such as retinol or exfoliating acids, this moisturizer is worth a look.
Chamomile Cleansing Lotion

I’ll admit I wasn’t entirely sure what this product was at first. It’s called a Chamomile Cleansing Lotion, but it’s not a face wash. After reading more about it, I learned it’s meant to be used after cleansing as an alcohol-free, post-cleanse treatment for dry and sensitive skin.
I rarely use products like this because I still have flashbacks to the witch hazel toners of the ’80s. (Remember Sea Breeze and Ten-O-Six? I can practically smell them now—and immediately remember that stinging sensation. It felt like a million tiny angry bees attacking your face, but we did it for beauty!)
Thankfully, this was nothing like those.
I used it after removing my makeup and found that my skin felt cleaner without feeling stripped.
My daughter was even more impressed. She found that it removed the last traces of long-wear foundation without irritating her already compromised skin barrier—a rare accomplishment for someone with severe eczema.
One We’d Recommend That Wasn’t Part of the Review
Although Mario Badescu didn’t send this product, we’ve both used the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser, and it’s worth mentioning.

I personally found it to be a gentle cleanser, though I regularly use an exfoliating device, so I didn’t notice a dramatic difference compared with my usual routine.
My daughter’s dermatologist typically recommends that she stick with very gentle cleansers, such as Cetaphil or CeraVe. But when my daughter broke from her usual routine and gave this a try, she was amazed at how smooth her skin felt. Her pores felt noticeably cleaner, and flaky skin all but disappeared.
If you don’t already exfoliate regularly, this is probably the product in the lineup where you’ll notice the biggest difference right away.
Where to Buy
Mario Badescu products are available through many retailers, but there are a few advantages to ordering directly from mariobadescu.com, where we’ve linked the products in this article.
New email and SMS subscribers can enter to win a $150 gift card, orders over $35 receive free U.S. shipping, and first-time customers can also receive free samples after completing the brand’s online skin analysis.
For anyone with sensitive skin, it’s always smart to introduce new products one at a time and patch test first. And of course, if you’re dealing with eczema or another skin condition, check with your dermatologist before taking skincare advice from someone on the internet—even if it’s your friends at Pretty.
That said, these products were gentle enough for two very sensitive testers, and several have earned a permanent place in our skincare routines.
