Inspired by The Abbott and Costello Show

In classic Abbott and Costello fashion, what begins as a simple birthday party invitation turns into complete chaos over a bowl of strawberry ice cream.
In the Season 1 episode “Lou’s Birthday Party,” Lou innocently promises the landlord’s wife dessert—specifically “genuine strawberry” ice cream. Within seconds, the conversation spirals into allergies, ambulances, widowhood, eleven children, and accusations that Lou is trying to ruin a marriage through frozen dairy.
Naturally, we decided the only reasonable response was to make strawberry ice cream ourselves.
Thankfully, this homemade version is considerably less dramatic.

Made with real strawberries, cream, and just enough lemon to brighten the flavor, this easy no-churn dessert comes together in a food processor—no ice cream maker required. The texture lands somewhere between strawberry ice cream and a creamy frozen mousse, with bright berry flavor in every bite.
Just don’t force it on anyone’s wife.
“Nobody’s going to push fresh strawberry ice cream down my wife’s throat!”

It’s classic comedy that still holds up. Trust us: the strawberry ice cream conversation somehow becomes even funnier once ambulances and eleven children enter the discussion.
Genuine Strawberry Ice Cream
Ingredients
- 16 ounces frozen strawberries
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
Directions
- Place the frozen strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, and heavy cream in a food processor and let ’er rip.
- At first, it’ll look like an enormous strawberry iceberg rattling around the machine. Keep processing, stopping to scrape down the sides if needed, until the frozen berries break down into a thick, creamy mixture.
- Transfer to a freezer-safe container and freeze until firm enough to scoop.
- If frozen solid, let the ice cream sit at room temperature for several minutes before serving.
Serve in bowls or vintage dessert dishes for maximum retro charm.
